emergency Lock Failure

Lock Failure

Locks fail, either through wear and tear or elemental damage. When this happens you will not be able to either lock or unlock the access to your property. As a consequence, your property will be unsecured and you’ll need to ensure that the lock is either repaired or replaced.

All of our locksmiths carry a supply of new locks and lock parts which can be fit to ensure security of your property again. Our locksmiths in Liverpool will ascertain straight away whether a lock can be repaired, and if not, they will discuss your new lock options with you. The better the lock, the more secure you will feel.

How do I know if my lock is failing?

Usually you will be able to recognise that a lock is beginning to fail before it fails completely and you are unable to lock your property. Our experienced locksmith Liverpool can give you a few simple things to look out for that may indicate that your locks or door mechanism is failing. On A UPVC door or a composite door there are a number of things to look out for. Does the handle feel strong when you pull it upwards to engage the mechanism? If it is either very stiff or so loose that it is nearly spinning around this indicates that the mechanism or gearbox could be seizing up. Is the key hard to turn in the lock? If it is our emergency locksmith recommends not to force it or put pressure on it. This could mean that the lock itself has either become damaged or faulty and by forcing the key you may very well end up snapping the key blade in the lock and needing emergency locksmith services. This could also be the case if you are struggling to get the key into the lock in the first place. If you are experiencing any of these, it is a good idea to get the lock replaced by a local locksmith as soon as possible, to avoid an emergency locksmith situation.

If you have a wooden door the same principles apply. If your key is difficult to fit in the lock, or stiff when turning it usually means there is an issue with the lock. If you have a rim cylinder lock with a night latch the night latch should be fully secured and not movable. If it is loose in any way it can cause problems to the lock itself and if not fitted properly by an experienced local locksmith you can be locked out with no way of getting into your property.
